Abstract

This article is an extract of a research study conducted on the selected indicators of socio-economic status of the returnee migrants in Bangladesh. The study is mainly based on primary data collected from the 300 returnee migrants of Cumilla and Tangail districts through a sample survey method. The objective of this study is to investigate the role of remittance on returnee migrants, incorporating social relationship and social recognition as well as family relationships along with the socio-economic well-being. It is observed that a positive and significant relationship existed between household income and expenditure. The relationship between the consumption of both food items and non-food items with remittance is found to be positive and significant. Remittance has helped raise the quality of living standard of the wage earners’ families. It is found that remittance is an important source of income for households, helping households to increase consumption and investment and to cope with socio-economic needs. The study highlights the socio-economic profile, pattern and use of remittance, income, expenditure, problems, social recognition, savings, investments, entrepreneurship, expectations, etc.
